Famous people of Zelenodolsk: Stories of Success and Inspiration

Zelenodolsk is a city with a rich history and talented people who, through their hard work, creativity, and achievements, have inscribed their names not only in the annals of their homeland but also in the history of the country. Among them are athletes, artists, scientists, industrialists, and public figures. Some were born here, while others found a second home in Zelenodolsk, but what unites them all is that they have become part of our history. In this article, we will tell the stories of those who brought fame to our city and continue to inspire new generations to achieve great things.

 

ADAEV Konstantin 

– A citizen of Zelenodolsk, athlete, stuntman, and a renowned Russian film actor, he has appeared in more than 40 films and worked as a stuntman in over 20.

 

BENUA Nikolai  

– A Russian entrepreneur and inventor of a sound reconnaissance device, the principles of which are still used by the Russian military today. In 1917, he acquired the assets of the bankrupt Volga-Visher Joint Stock Company, on the basis of which he launched ammunition production, which became the foundation for the future POZiS. He lived for some time in Paratsk – now house No. 27 on Karl Marx Street, located in the “polukamushki” area.

 

VASILYEV Konstantin  

– A world-famous artist who lived and worked in the village of Vasilyevo, as well as in the Rodina Cultural Center. He glorified pagan, pre-Christian Rus’ in his epic works (he was one of the pioneers in this genre). Among his most notable paintings are “Man with an Owl,” “Dostoevsky,” “Mermaid,” “Marshal Zhukov,” “Farewell of the Slav,” “Forest Gothic,” and others.

 

GARIPOVA Dina  

– A citizen of Zelenodolsk, People’s Artist of Tatarstan, the first winner of the TV show “The Voice” (2012), and one of the finalists of the Eurovision Song Contest 2013 (5th place).

 

DOTSENKO Anastasia  

– A Russian skier, International Master of Sports, winner of World Cup stages, her highest achievements are 5th place at the 2015 World Championships and 6th place in the team sprint at the 2014 Sochi Olympics. She was born in the Samara region, but her rise as a world-class athlete took place in Zelenodolsk under the guidance of coach Anatoly Romanov. Today, Anastasia is a resident of our city.

 

DYADKOVA Larisa  

– A citizen of Zelenodolsk, Soviet and Russian opera singer (mezzo-soprano), director of the opera at the Primorsky Opera and Ballet Theater, soloist of the Mariinsky Theater, Honored and People’s Artist of Russia. She now lives with her family near Luxembourg.

 

KALIMULLIN Rashid  

– A inhabitant of Zelenodolsk, a prominent Tatar composer, chairman of the board of the Union of Composers of the Russian Federation and the Republic of Tatarstan, People’s Artist of the Russian Federation and the Republic of Tatarstan.

 

KOGOGIN Sergey  

– A resident of Bolshiye Klyuchi, a Russian industrialist and statesman, director of ZMZ, head of the Zelenodolsk District Administration from 1994 to 1999, Vice-Premier of the Republic of Tatarstan from 1999 to 2002, Minister of Economy and Industry of the Republic of Tatarstan, and since April 2002, General Director of PJSC “KAMAZ.”

 

KOLOTOV Viktor  

– An outstanding Soviet footballer, winner of the UEFA Super Cup and the UEFA Cup Winners’ Cup, medalist of two Olympics (1972, 1976) and Euro 1972, six-time champion of the USSR, and two-time winner of the Soviet Cup. A native of the village of Yudino, he began his stellar career in the Zelenodolsk football team “Chaika.”

 

LARKOV Andrey  

– A titled Russian skier, resident of Zelenodolsk, graduate of Youth Sports School No. 4, Honored Master of Sports of the Russian Federation, member of the Russian national cross-country skiing team, two-time Olympic medalist, two-time world vice-champion, and two-time Russian champion in the 70 km ultramarathon. He continues to be an active athlete.

 

PANFILOV Alexey  

– A inhabitant of Nizhniye Vyazovye, Lieutenant General of Tank Forces, participant of the Great Patriotic War, Hero of the Soviet Union, buried at the Novodevichy Cemetery. His ashes rest near the grave of Boris Yeltsin.

 

PONOCHEVNY Vladimir  

– A Soviet film actor and director, native of Zelenodolsk (lived in house No. 1 on Dekabristov Street), now a resident of Minsk. He currently works at “Belarusfilm,” most often as an assistant director. At one time, he was the second director during the filming of the masterpiece of Soviet cinema – Elem Klimov’s drama “Come and See” (1985).

 

SAFIN Rinat  

– A native of Bolshiye Yaki, Soviet biathlete, Honored Master of Sports of the USSR, Olympic champion in 1972, and four-time world champion from 1969 to 1973.

SAFRONOV Vladimir  

– A inhabitant of Zelenodolsk, graduate of the local Youth Sports School No. 1, Soviet gymnast, International Master of Sports of the USSR, medalist of the USSR and World Championships, and World Cup medalist. He was the first in the world to perform a triple somersault dismount from the horizontal bar. An international category judge, he officiated at the 1996 World Championships in San Juan (Puerto Rico) and the 1996 Olympics in Atlanta. He lives in the USA.

 

KHAIRULLINA Roza  

– A native of Zelenodolsk, a famous Russian theater and film actress, critics write about her: “The dramatic images she creates amaze viewers with the depth of character.” She has starred in such popular films as “Ivan the Terrible” (2009), “The Horde,” and “Champions.”

 

KHRUNICHEV Mikhail  

– Former director of the Sergo Plant, Minister of Aviation Industry of the USSR, Deputy Chairman of the USSR State Planning Committee, Chairman of the State Committee of the USSR Council of Ministers for the Coordination of Scientific Research, and Hero of Socialist Labor. He is buried at the Kremlin Wall Necropolis on Red Square.

 

SHALYAPIN Fyodor  

– The great Russian singer. Fyodor Ivanovich was born in Kazan, but it is reliably known that he lived with his parents for some time in the village of Bolshiye Klyuchi, which is now part of the Zelenodolsk district.

The stories of these famous people are not just biographies; they are examples of how talent, hard work, and dedication to one’s craft can change not only an individual’s life but also the life of an entire city. We are pride of these people, as their achievements are not just personal successes but also part of our shared history. We hope that their example will inspire the younger generation to new accomplishments and that their memory will live in the hearts of their citizens for many years. After all, their names will forever remain in the chronicles of Zelenodolsk.
