(просмотр видеофрагмента)
According to the definition given in the Cambridge dictionary – Breaking the ice means to make people who haven’t met before feel more relaxed with each other.
Warming up questions:
- How would you start a conversation with someone you don’t know?
Can it be a problem for you?
- Do people feel uncomfortable when they meet anyone new? Why?
3. What are your first feelings when you meet new people?
Now we’ll build our today’s lesson in the following way, please look at the screen. What do we see? This is a problem solving strategy under the positive name “IDEAL”, where:
I — Identify a problem — Идентифицировать проблему.
D — Debate a problem — Добраться до ее сути. Школьники формулируют проблему в виде вопроса.
E — Essential solutions — Варианты решения.
A — Activity — Выбор оптимального варианта (вариантов), видов деятельности.
L — Logical conclusions — Логические выводы.
Throughout our lesson you will be working with this strategy, we will follow it out step by step!
Pay attention, children !
THROUGHOUT THE LESSON!
So,the first step “I” Identify a problem is done. Fortunately, we managed to define the theme.
Let us move to the second and the third steps –
“D” Debating a problem & “E” Essential solutions.
Before the beginning a little instruction:
during the lesson you will be evaluating yourself by completing the columns of the chart. At the end of the lesson you will submit your charts. Please fill the first column of it right now.

Our topic “Breaking the ice” t.i. “Socialising” is connected with the character description, as when we meet a person for the first time, we try to find out his character. It is very important.
I would like to offer you the technology «Brainstorm», where you will name as many words as you know and possible.
Working with the words:

Sensitive
Patient
Easy-going

Every individual has his own personality and his own character traits. Sometimes we think we are the best, but sometimes the reality is quite different. Now I want you to discuss your qualities using adjectives which best describe you and to share with the qualities you don’t have but would like to have.
Maybe it’s not an easy thing to speak about yourself as it is hard to have a look at yourself from aside, but at the same time who knows you better than you yourself do?
Example— In my opinion I am …..
But I would like….
We came closer to our last step “L” Logical conclusions.
So my dear, to conclude the above mentioned material I’d like you to answer the questions:
- What qualities will help us to break the ice?
- What about the qualities which can disturb us from breaking the ice?
- What qualities are necessary for a person you would like to make friends with?
The lesson is coming to an end. Now I want you to take you your charts and complete the columns of it according to your points of view. Please fill the second and the third columns of the chart, as the first one has been already filled.
| I want to learn…. | I’ve learnt…. | Now I can….. |
So, our lesson is over! Thank you very much for your work and cooperation!!!
